Fresh-ground nutmeg and cinnamon taste brighter than anything out of a jar, and the Microplane Spice Mill makes it a simple twist. Drop a whole nutmeg or a piece of cinnamon stick into the base, set the plunger on top, push down, and turn clockwise. Press lightly for a coarser grind or bear down for a fine powder that disappears into custards, eggnog, béchamel, and holiday baking.
The cutting is done by a 128-tooth photo-etched stainless steel blade made in the USA, tucked safely in the base where fingertips stay clear. An airtight compartment in the top holds extra whole spices, and the soft-touch body is comfortable in the hand. It handles dried ginger too.
